Prof G.G.Narke ,geology professor of Pune , who was an eminent devotee
of Sai Baba , has left us details of some of the miracles performed by
Baba.Narke , a talented scientist who had studied in England , had
been unemployed for some time and did not get the job suited to his
qualifications and had to be satisfied with temporary appointments. Baba
said him: "Go to Pune" Narke surprised what that meant for he had
nothing to do with Pune. But one day he was traveling in a train he
heard there was a vacancy for a geology professor in Pune College and he
at once went there, applied for the job and got it. He then realized
that Baba had foreseen his appointment.
Baba was often misunderstood when he spoke in his mysterious ways to the devotees. Narke give an example. When devotee told to Baba that a relative of his was dead from tuberculosis Baba said:" How can he die? In the morning he will come back to life." The dead man's relatives waited with lighted lamps round his body for him to come back to life. But there was nothing happened and they were all angry with Baba giving false hopes. After some days Baba appeared in a dream to relative with the dead man's head on his own and said: "The man's lungs were terrible condition .From the torment of all this I saved him." The meaning of what Baba said that became lucid to the relatives. What Baba said referred not to this life but to the survival of human personality which takes new life.
According to Narke Baba thought he had nobody in Shirdi to serve him as he served his guru. "I would quiver to come in the presence of my guru," once he said Baba asked: "Who can dare to call himself my disciple? Who can serve me adequately and satisfactorily?" Narke said Baba's was the power that controlled our fate here. The duty of follower of Baba is only to keep him fit for the guru's grace. Once Baba asked Rs.15/- as Dakshina from Pro. G.G.Narke, who replied that he did not have even a pie. Then Baba said, "I know you have no money; but you are reading Yoga-Vashistha. Give Me Dakshina from that." Giving Dakshina in this case meant - `Deriving lessons from the book and lodging them in the heart where Baba resides'.
Narke's relatives asked Baba what was to became of Narke Baba said: "I will settle him Pune." Four years later in 1917, Narke was appointed Professor of Geology in the Engineering College of Pune.
